This is a great external hard drive, this is my first Western Digital hard drive. The other external hard drive I had was a Seagate Pro 750GB, that one filled up in a year and half. So this one should last me more than that as this one has double the space than that one. Right now I am using one of the things that came in the packaging and using it to stand up the hard drive. Has some good transfer speeds for a usb 2.0, as I don't use esata even though the Seagate Pro has one haven't bought the cable and I'm ok with those speeds as I don't transfer more the 10GB's and that doesn't take that long to transfer. This is a great hard drive and would recommend to anyone.

Has worked great so far, transfered almost my whole 500 GB hardrive to it in less than 2-3 hours with no problems. Definitely a great external to use!

I bought 3 of these drives for $99 each around Black Friday. The value cannot be beat and I always prefer Western Digital due to their Advance Replacement policy.
One of the drives had issues. I always check all new drives I buy with the Western Digital Life Diagnostics program which is available for free from Western Digital. All drives passed the test without issues. The test will take at least 12 hours to complete on such a large drive. One of the drives was dropping the transfer rate after copying 500 GB to it for no reason and I had to replace it. What is really disappointing is that the drive passed the test so I have no confidence in the diagnostic program anymore.
The moment you receive the drive check your warranty online at the Western Digital website. The warranty for this model is only 1 year which I consider absolutely insufficient for a drive. The bad thing about it is that Western Digital starts counting from the manufacturing date and by the time you get it, the warranty left is only 9-10 months which is ridiculous. They will update the warranty to 1 year after the purchase date but you will have to send them the receipt and be patient. It took them 2 weeks to respond to an online request. They also have an option to extend the warranty for another 2 years for $25 per drive. I might consider that....
I recommend this drive because the size, price and ease of use. It doesn't have any of the limitations of the fancier Western Digital drives. It is just a big, cheap external hard drive.

I got a wd 1tb (WDBAAU0010HBK) for $99 from a local shop around 2 month ago. (last black Friday I lost a chance to get this one for $58 anyway..) I'm using this one with WDTV. So far it has performed great without any problem.

I had an Iomega 1.5T external hard drive on my wish list, but when this drive became available as a Black Friday deal for $99.95, I went for it, primarily based on price. The Elements drive is nicely compact, measuring 7" x 4.5"x 1.35" high. It is designed to have a rectangular footprint. There is no stand to hold the drive upright.
Power and USB cords are included. Once the drive is connected to your computer, it is ready for immediate use. The unit has no power switch, but has a tiny white LED light on the rear, near the power cord jack, that indicates that power is on. When data is being transferred, the LED blinks. The drive is designed to go into energy savings mode, when your computer shuts down, which reduces wear and tear to the drive.
Actual usable memory will vary, mine drive shows 1.36TB available. The unit runs fairly quiet. It gets a little warm at the bottom, but doesn't seem to get very hot. Transfer speed is limited to USB 2.0 capacity, and it can easily take several hours to transfer larger amounts of data. As my last WD drive died suddenly, I hope for better luck with this one, or it will probably be the last WD drive for me. Based on performance and the Black Friday pricing, this is a solid four star product, with the potential for five stars if it lasts.
