"Good for the most part..." 2009-12-04

I got this drive on sale and immediately put about 500GB of data on it, without any issues. It compares to my previous 500GB FreeAgent Pro in terms of speed, though I've only used USB. The included backup software is okay-ish, but I prefer to use my own software. You can opt out of installing the Seagate Manager by just moving the installation files to a different folder on your drive.

I'm giving the product only four stars because the day after I got it, the drive started making clicking noises and the connection between the drive and the computer dropped and wouldn't come back up even after I unplugged the USB and plugged it back in. Out of frustration, I whacked the drive on the side, and everything went back to normal. It's been about four weeks since then and it's run perfectly, so hopefully that was an isolated incident.

I have had no problem with the 2TB free agent, and have bought a second one for a specific project. It feels no slower thant the 1TB or smaller external USBs I have had.

 "Failed upon arrival!" 2009-11-15

I have been building my own computers for the last 10 years. Have used internal and external drives from Maxtor, Seagate, and Western Digital. Seagate used to be my favorite brand but I'm starting to wonder about their quality. This drive failed on me on the FIRST use. I now have to return it to Amazon for a refund. Good thing returns to Amazon are painless. To think...I was going to use this thing as a BACKUP drive! Buy at your own risk. Before you buy, check out the reviews at other vendors sites.

 "Works Great!" 2009-11-14

I tried the Western Digital 2TB a couple of months ago, but it started failing the first day on multiple computers with USB intermittently dis/connecting.

No problems so far with this 2TB. It's quiet and copies the same speed as my other 750GB Seagate and 500GB Western Digital (20-24,000KB/s) and I've been lucky and had no problems with all of them.

It also came pre-formatted with NTFS which is nice.

Fast shipping from Amazon too! I used the 5-7 day free shipping service, ordered it Monday night and it arrived Friday, sweet! :)

I was disappointed to see the drive was only rated for PCs but I reformated it for my mac. Works great.. I'll use it for media storage for awhile to make certain there are no problems.. but don't anticipate any. Fast, easy to use, great value.
