This external hard drive will store all of my digital photos as well as documents.
Eventually I will even store my music on it. It is a fine product and worth the price I paid. Value for the dollar.

If I were to list all the features that I wanted in a file backup system, they would all be included in the hardware and software associated with the HP SimpleSave 1.5 TB unit. For years I backed up my most important documents on disks - that is, when the thought crossed my mind. As the size of my archives increased, I started using the hp personal media drive (PMD) with 300 GB of storage. That saved my you-know-what big time when the hard drive on my z555 failed and needed to be replaced. But whenever I backed up with the PMD, error messages would occur that needed to be dealt with manually. Nothing like starting a four or five hour backup and returning later to find an error message waiting instead of having your files backed up. That meant baby sitting the backup. What a pain in the you-know-what. With my PMD no longer capable of holding my archived files in one location, I needed something with larger storage capacity, and hopefully operating a lot more robustly. HP provided me a solution in the SimpleSave 1.5 TB unit. Not only can I keep all my archived documents in one place (for easy access), but the software that comes with the unit flags errors when it encounters them during backup, and then keeps right on going - creating a summary document of the job when completed, and including a nice description of the flagged errors. But the best is yet to come: keep the drive active on your system and it automatically backs up your new work as you create it - just leave your system idle for five minutes or more. Now that's smart. The software also provides a great deal of flexibility in choosing which file types to back up. AND - if you attach your other external storage media to your computer during backup, the unit will grab the files on those as well (an option). Now that's convenient. AND - the software is preinstalled on the unit: no installation required. Now that's even more convenient. I couldn't find anything not to like about the design or performance of this unit. Oh, did I forget to mention it's about the size of a book (computer app reference manual) and runs extremely cool. AND use it to back up more than one computer. AND...

The only downside to this unit is the blue light on the front is somewhat bright and distracting, but that is easily remedied by placing something small in front of the light. Came preformatted NTSF and bundled software was easily removed. Can't really comment on the software, because I use my own backup solution. Unit is light, quiet and runs cool. Lacks an on/off switch on the back. So far no problems. Will soon purchase a second one.

As always my purchase got here at super fast speed, with the usual free shipping (orders over $25.00) This HP drive I use to back up my WX 32 Weather Station Data on a dedicated HP Computer that Runs 24/7. This drive assures me of a backup in the event of the old drive failure.
