After one year, all of sudden, this drive just died, no computer could detect it. It died with all my valuable and crucial data including numerous documents, videos, music, photos, etc. After trying all the solution methods that are available on the internet, with Seagate's website, or with outside experts, nothing resolved, and I was told that the drive is dead. I became another victim of Seagate. Although it still has its warranty, I won't send it back for exchange, I simply just won't buy any Seagate products. With all the important data that I have lost, I also lost my trust with Seagate.

I have 2 of these units. I bought my second after having my first for over a year with no problems. So far I've had my second for a couple of months and also no problems. I am a very satisfied customer.
I was surprised to read so many negative reviews for this product. Either I'm very lucky or there are a lot of people who do not know how to handle an external hard drive. (handle carefully, place in a well ventilated area and leave it)

I bought a FreeAgent Desk 1TB drive in October 2009. It failed in January of this year (and I lost some irreplaceable data as a result).
Seagate replaced the drive under warranty.
The replacement failed on the weekend and as a result I lost my complete photo archive going back to 2005 (almost 1TB of data).
Do not - I repeat do not - make the same mistake I did and buy one of these drives.
I am getting the data recovered by a data recovery specialist (at a cost close to $1000). The data recovery specialist said he would never buy or recommend a Seagate product as they cause more problems than any hard drive manufacturer.

I bought the Seagate Freeagent drive (2TB) for using with my Mac. After 3 months it has suddenly stopped working. It makes a clicking sound, then stops spinning. Freeagents support is no good and I have lost my data. I have also now read dozens of posts online saying the same thing.

Hi as every one said they where rite. my Hard drive stopped working, I plugged my usb & it said the Drive was Corrupted or not working. I thought I had a virus I was wont. Im running program called (Recover My Files V4.0.2) I was told it could repair that bad drive. the power lite still comes on the drive my computer wont open drive, I wonder if maybe Ordering the same one from Amazon & putting the broken one back in the box returning the broken one back to amazon . this way Amazon will just sent it back to the manufacturer dont tell any one you are doing this. just do it.go to Costco Buy another 1.5 tb Freeagent ,put the broken one back in the box & return it to costco lye this way you can get your money back for Freeagent fault. Sorry people I dident listen to you.I was not thinking. 94 people reported it stopped working. I still have my box by the way. once I exchange it back to the store I should be ok. another way is to tell the store you dont have your receipt can u exchange it for the same one. they might let you do it. just lye & tell them you bought it there. if they dont have any in stock ask if you can return it for store credit. good luck guys
